Digital Content: A 2 Billion Dollar Business

The Online Publishers Association released a study (PDF) that says digital content has grown to be a 2 billion dollar business.

  • Paid content reached the $2 billion mark in 2005, growing over 200% since 2001.
  • Growth in online content spending in 2005 was driven primarily by growth in the Entertainment/Lifestyle category as a result of online music sales.
  • Entertainment/Lifestyles registered the largetest year-over-year gains and is the largest paid content category – supporting the trend that consumers are increasingly using the Internet for entertainment.
