VISA Micro Tags

At the MWC last week many companies announced NFC projects. VISA was there promoting their payWave technology. payWave uses Mirco Tags, from the site: “Visa payWave allows your Visa Micro Tag to be read only when in close proximity (1-2 inches) to a secure reader that accepts Visa payWave payments. After waving your Visa Micro Tag in front of it, the reader will indicate that your information has been received and is being processed through the secure Visa network.”

VISA - Bill Gajda

Bill Gajda, global head of Visa Mobile, spoke with CNET at the conference. “People don’t want to wait two years for NFC-enabled phones to come out or to switch phones,” to get one with an NFC chip sooner, Gajda said. “You can make payments today on the iPhone 4.”

“NFC technology will take off in 2011,” Gajda predicted. “The move from leather wallets to mobile wallets will come this year. We see contactless (mobile payments) as a leapfrog technology for many parts of the world.”

There is a video of Bill talking about the mobile wallet on VISA’s blog, but you can’t embed it – thanks VISA! They are even using WordPress… let it go…can’t let it go – here is another one from last Fall.
