ABB invests in Validus DC Systems

ABB continues its push towards smart grid technology with an investment in Validus DC Systems.  Validus improves energy efficiency for data centers using direct current power solutions.

From the Validus site:

“Validus DC Systems offers a completely integrated direct current power distribution solution that reliably and efficiently supports the deployment of direct current powered equipment in mission critical facilities throughout the world.

•  Utilizes either a -380 VDC or -575 VDC power distribution system and
seamlessly integrates into -380 VDC power supplies and/or a Validus
Power Converter Unit to provide -48 VDC at the point of use.

•  Modular and scalable to provide the highest reliability and the lowest
total cost of ownership.

•  Reduce overall data center operations costs through improved energy
efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, reduced installation costs and
lower power equipment acquisition costs.

•  Designed to be deployed universally, using equipment that is uniformly
powered and common to all countries.”

From the press release:

“DC systems provide data centers with a game-changing advantage in both operational and capital cost savings and we believe they will be widely adopted in this energy-intensive industry,“ said Tarak Mehta, head of ABB’s Low Voltage Products division.

“With ABB’s strong financial backing, their long-term experience in DC technology in other industries, as well as their highly-skilled technical support and vast market reach, we can quickly expand the availability of our DC systems to cost-challenged data centers worldwide,” said Rudy Kraus, Chief Executive Officer of Validus DC Systems. “This end-to-end solution will help facilities save millions of dollars in energy and installation costs without sacrificing reliability.”
