Bitcoin is the most dangerous open-source project ever created

I made a quick mention of Bitcoin in a previous post but its back in the news as Jason Calacanis and the LAUNCH team post some updates on their show and then subsequent traffic from new stories. Bitcoins are a virtual currency stored on your computer or other device that can be exchanged between people as a form of payment.

Facebook: Deals and Credits FTW

A new York Times article announces the launch of Facebook Deals for five cities in the US: Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco. Deals will be easily shared with friends via email or wall posts and is going to potentially be free for merchants. With an install base of 600 million members and 100 million mobile users (2010), Facebook is set to put a hurt on Groupon’s valuation.

Square lands in Apple’s online and retail locations

Mobile payment app and hardware provider Square gets a big boost today from its inclusion in the Apple online store and will begin selling in Apple retail locations this week. Square is aimed at the lower tie of credit card processing, a level or two below the sweet spot for larger companies like Verifone.
